Prentke Romich Company (PRC) Launches AAC Language Lab Web Site PDF Print E-mail

Prentke Romich Company (PRC), the leading manufacturer of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) devices for individuals with speech disabilities, today announced the launch of AAC Language Lab, a comprehensive new web resource designed for the AAC community.


The easy-to-navigate site at www.AACLanguageLab.com offers speech language pathologists (SLPs), special educators, family members, and others working with speech-impaired individuals a rich library of teaching and therapy resources designed to support language development among those using Vantage™ Lite, the new ECO™2, and other AAC devices from PRC.


Site visitors can identify appropriate goals and outcomes for each key stage in language development and download language lesson plans and other teaching ideas and activities geared to the specific stages. The site also offers complete curricula for teaching Unity®, the powerful language program found exclusively in PRC’s AAC devices. Unity enables device users to progress from single words and short phrases to complete, spontaneous, and novel thoughts and ideas. The Gifted Young Child: A Guide for Families PDF Print E-mail

The Gifted Young Child: A Guide for Families is a new resource developed jointly by the Office of Early Learning and School Readiness and the Office for Exception Children/Gifted Education.  The publication was prepared to help parents who believe their preschool child may be gifted. 

 

This brochure describes characteristics and behaviors of gifted children and describes how parents can help develop their children’s gifts and talents. It also offers guidance on children’s social and emotional needs, the selection of appropriate schools and additional resources.

 

Additionally, teachers, caregivers and other early childhood professionals may find this guide useful  as they support families in meeting their children’s unique needs. Copies are available on the Ohio Department of Education Web site at www.education.ohio.gov search “young gifted child”.

Shaken Baby Syndrome Informational Flyer PDF Print E-mail
Deaths and injuries from shaken baby syndrome (SBS) can be prevented by helping adults understand normal crying, practice methods to soothe crying babies and learn how to safely relieve the stress of caring for young children. The Ohio Department of Health in collaboration with Help Me Grow has made available an informational brochure entitled "Babies Cry A Lot". The pamphlet has information about choosing an appropriate care giver, the symptoms of shaken baby syndrome, tips for calming your baby, and techniques for remaining in control.
