As you know, the writing and social studies
test has been suspended for the OAT for the next two years. This has
impacted the Alternate Assessment for Students with Disabilities (AASWD).
The chart above shows the new reading standards that will be assessed as
replacements for the social studies and writing standards that were removed
from the test. The new standards are in red, and were added to the grades 4,
5, 7, and 8 tests. The standards that are highlighted in yellow are the
same standards from last year’s AASWD. They were highlighted because
their position on the chart was moved to the left when compared to last
year’s chart. The impact of adding the reading standards and removing
the social studies and writing standards is that teachers administering the
test in the 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8
th grades will now have to collect evidence on new tasks that are
aligned with the new reading standards (in red lettering) and the associated
application.
